El Chombo's 'Dame Tu Cosita' Collaborator Sues Payday Publishing Over Missing Royalties
Jamaican dancehall singer Cutty Ranks claims he's owed at least $3 million in unpaid composition royalties.
The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleges that Payday Publishing failed to pay Cutty Ranks the agreed-upon royalties for his work on 'Dame Tu Cosita,' a hit single released in 2017.
According to the complaint, Cutty Ranks was promised 50% of the song's publishing revenue, but Payday Publishing has only paid him a fraction of that amount.
The lawsuit seeks damages of at least $3 million, as well as a court order requiring Payday Publishing to pay Cutty Ranks the full amount of royalties owed.
The case is a reminder of the ongoing issues with music industry royalties and the need for artists to protect their rights.
