Original Power Ranger Actors Reveal Shocking Low Movie Salary
The original Power Rangers actors have spoken out about their shockingly low salaries for the 1995 movie. According to an interview with Stephanie Soteriou of BuzzFeed, the actors were paid a mere fraction of what they deserved.
The original Power Rangers cast, which included Jason David Frank, Austin St. John, and Walter Emanuel Jones, among others, were reportedly paid a total of $8,000 each for their work on the film. This is a far cry from the billions of dollars that the franchise has gone on to earn.
"You made a billion dollars, you can't even make it SAG?!" Frank exclaimed in the interview. "We were just a bunch of kids, and we were treated like dirt."
The low salaries were a result of the production company's decision to use non-union actors, which meant that they were not entitled to the same benefits and protections as union actors.
The Power Rangers franchise has since become a global phenomenon, with numerous movies, TV shows, and merchandise. However, the original cast members have spoken out about the poor treatment they received during the making of the first film.
"It's crazy to think about how much we were paid, and how much the franchise has made over the years," St. John said. "We were just a bunch of kids, trying to make a living and have fun. We didn't realize how big the franchise would become."
The Power Rangers cast has since gone on to pursue other projects, but the experience of working on the first film has left a lasting impact on them.
"It's a reminder that in the entertainment industry, you have to be careful about who you work with and what you agree to," Jones said. "You have to look out for yourself and make sure you're getting treated fairly."
The original Power Rangers movie was released in 1995 and was a commercial success, grossing over $140 million worldwide. However, the low salaries paid to the cast members have left a lasting stain on the franchise's reputation.
