The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has banned the sale of new routers manufactured outside the US, citing an 'unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States and to [the] integrity of the global internet.' [7]

The ban applies to the sale of new routers manufactured outside the US, but anyone with existing foreign-made routers can continue to use them. [7]

This move comes after the FCC banned all future drones made in foreign countries from being imported into the United States, unless or until their maker gets an exemption. [6]

The FCC has stated that the ban is necessary to protect the US from potential security threats, but some experts have raised concerns about the potential impact on consumers and the tech industry. [7]

The ban is set to take effect immediately, and companies that manufacture routers outside the US will need to obtain an exemption in order to continue selling their products in the US. [7]
